Sarah Khanniche received her Bachelor in Chemistry from the University of Savoie in France, where she is originally from. After a summer internship in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Geneva, she enrolled as an Erasmus student for a Master’s degree at Northumbria University in the UK. During her master’s project in Physical Chemistry, she conducted laser-pulsed experiments to investigate the chemiluminescence reactions of Mn atoms with S2Cl2. Additionally, Sarah gained skills in biophysics while working on bacterial membranes.
Back in France, Sarah completed her Ph.D. degree in Materials from the University of Grenoble. Her research project was funded by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) to employ molecular simulations for silica based sensors interacting with nitroaromatic molecules (TNT and 2,4-DNT). She was then a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lille where she was involved in quantum chemistry calculations for gas-phase reactivity of iodine oxides for atmospheric chemistry and nuclear safety.
As a Postdoctoral Associate in Prof. William H. Green’s group, Sarah is mainly focusing on biofuels/predicting fuel combustion in order to improve kinetic models. She is also performing quantum calculations of thermodynamic parameters and rate constants associated with kerogen pyrolysis.
In her free time, she is keen on dancing and practicing Savate French boxing.
